Welcome back to our Labubu Full Series Guide! As of June 12, 2025, Labubu has officially released 37 distinct series, each contributing to the brand's ever-growing legacy. In our last installment, we explored the debut The Monsters Mini Figures Series 1 (2016)—the foundation of Labubu's iconic design. Today, we dive into its direct successor:
Release Date: September 23, 2017
Original Format: Gashapon (Capsule Toys)
Original Price: $105 per set (10 figures)
Current Market Value (2025): 700
This series debuted at the Taipei Toy Festival (TTF), marking Labubu’s first event-exclusive release. While retaining the core cast and gashapon format of Series 1, it introduced bold color innovations—abandoning the original opaque/transparent duality for richer, more dynamic palettes.
✅ Two Color Groups:
Standard Colors: Vibrant, saturated versions of the original cast.
Alternate Colors: Desaturated ("washed-out") variants, creating a ghostly aesthetic.
✅ Same Core Characters (5 + 5 Variants):
Pipopo
Tycoco
Monsters Boy
Yaya
Labubu
✅ Design Evolution:
Modular Assembly: Heads and bodies were separately molded, requiring manual assembly—a quirky hallmark of early Labubu releases.
No Hidden Figures: Like Series 1, this set had no chase variants, making complete sets easier to collect.
Festival Exclusive: Limited availability at TTF 2017 fueled its rarity.
💰 Price Surge:
2017 Original Price: 10.50 per figure**.
2025 Market Value: 700/set (3–7x appreciation).
⚠️ Why the Premium?
Event Rarity: Fewer units produced than mainstream releases.
Nostalgic Appeal: Represents Labubu’s last gashapon series before transitioning to blind boxes.
Color Experimentation: The "alternate" desaturated set remains a fan-favorite oddity.
This series bridged Labubu’s gashapon era and its future as a blind box phenomenon. Notably:
Color Risk: The bold palette shift proved successful, encouraging later complex designs (e.g., Forest Concert’s gradients).
Assembly Quirk: Later series abandoned modular parts for seamless sculpts, streamlining production.
Yet, it retained the raw charm of early releases—before Labubu became a polished global icon.
The TTF 2017 Series is a time capsule of Labubu’s experimental phase. While later series overshadowed it in technical refinement, this set’s limited run and color-play make it a prized collectible—especially for completists.
